Pregnant women are at risk if they are infected with the varizella zoster virus—the chicken pox virus. They are at risk because the possibility of the baby being infected with the virus exists. The virus will go into the blood stream of the mother and the virus might go through the placenta and to the baby. What’s worse is that a pregnant woman cannot just take any medications, more specifically anti-viral drugs, for chicken pox! Sadly, the probable effect for this is that the baby might have some defects when it comes out. I just pray that cases like these would be very minimal.
