My family owns a lakefront property in California that we use maybe two weeks out of the year. It’s difficult for us to get to but too sentimental for us to get rid of. This past summer, it sat alone with no occupants. My family was unable get out there for a visit. However, when we made a weekend trip in the fall, there was a terrible mold infestation – an estimated 20-30 thousand dollars worth of damage.

The mold was caused by a combination of things; a poor ventilation system, heavy rain falls, and wet, humid days. We soon found out that homeowners insurance would only cover a fraction of the costs. Now we are in the process of paying cash to fix our vacation spot.

This post is meant to inform you about the dangers of mold and how homeowners insurance will only help you to an extent. For more information on California homeowners insurance and what it covers, visit Purves Insurance Agency.
