0034d714a6c49aOne late afternoon, I saw a kid, a street kid to be more specific, in one of the busy streets in the Philippines. It was very evident on his face that he is starving. That he hasn’t eaten for about 5, or 6 hours or so. As I continuously observed him, he inserted his hand on his tattered shorts’ pocket and was so glad in seeing a ten peso coin in it. Without second thought he immediately ran to the nearest cart along the street and bought some kwek-kwek to fill his empty stomach. This is just the other side of the story: that we Filipinos love food! Even an ordinary egg, dredged in an orange-colored flour coating and deep-fried is already an appealing gastronomic treat. But on the other side of the story, we could say that such egg could save lives. It could in a sense that it gives satisfaction to the starving stomach of our fellow Filipinos who are in dire poverty.
